90 Under 90

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED SEPTEMBER 2023 An excellent movie with far less relevance than it originally had, this month we're discussing "The Truman Show" directed by Peter Weir and starring Jim Carrey in his first significant dramatic shift.

Back by overwhelmingly popular demand! 90 Under 90 Presents The 3rd Annual Labor Day Special with Dan and Katie Eden. This year, Dan and Katie give us an update on their personal lives (or what's left of them) before being joined by an extra special guest who comes bearing fruit. Grab yourself a bowl of chili (don't forget the coffee!) and have someone tie you to a chair for appearance's sake. Because frankly...this needs to happen.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED AUGUST 2023 For the first time on 90 OVER 90, we have a guest host in the form of our dear old friend Cass Quinn to talk about the movie "SLC Punk!" as well as punk music and what it means to be punk.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED 7/30/23 Jer and Dan discuss a pivotal movie from their childhood: "The Blues Brothers" from 1980, directed by John Landis. But their love and knowledge of Jake and Elwood goes far beyond this one movie, having seeped their way into even their childhood play. It's a long one, but it's jam packed full of love and nostalgia.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED 6/30/23 Just in time for an Indiana Jones movie that's SURE to please EVERYONE, we discuss one of Dan's favorite movies: an Indiana Jones movie that pleased very few when it was initially released, "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" from 1984, directed by Senior Spielbergo.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED 5/14/23 Movies like this are why we started this side series in the first place. We talk very in depth about the implications and revelations in the 1991 comedy "Drop Dead Fred," the content of which only improves with age.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED 4/9/23 This month is Dan's choice, and a great example of a movie whose parts are greater than the sum. We talk about Damien Chazelle's young man's movie "Whiplash" from 2014 starring JK Simmons and Miles Teller.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED 5/24/23 It may not be an Irish movie, but it's still plenty green. We talk about "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" from 1990, which is still one of the best comic book movies ever adapted.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED 2/16/23 Jer and Dan choose the month of love to talk about a pretty solid romantic comedy which just so happens to be the greatest comedy of all time by our money! We talk Judd Apatow's 2005 (NOT 2004) comedy "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" starring Steve Carell.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED 1/9/23 As the powdery snow starts to fall, Jer picks one of his favorite movies, despite it being the generic store brand version of "Goodfellas." We're talking about the late Ted Demme's swan song "Blow" from 2001 starring Johnny Depp.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED 12/9/22 We celebrate Christmas with Dan's choice this year (though to be honest, it's a mutual love.) It's time for Tim Burton's "Batman Returns" starring Michael Keaton, Michelle Pfeiffer, Danny Devito, and Christopher Walken.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED 11/9/22 This month we talk about one of Jer's favorite movies, the brothers' mutual love and respect of Weird Al the artist, and we lay praise on the [then] newly-released "WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story"

Originally published 10/31/22 This month we discuss one of Dan's all time favorites, and a first-timer for Jer, "Zodiac" directed by David Fincher.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED 9/9/22 An episode that speaks for itself...

You kept asking and asking, and listened and listened...Back by popular demand 90 Under 90 Presents The Annual Labor Day Special with Dan and Katie Eden. In 2023 they launched the official unofficial podcast for the 2013 film "Labor Day" on the 90 Under 90 Patreon, in which they discussed the film beat by beat. The following year, they released the same episode to the public on the free 90 Under 90 feed with a bonus intro. This year they've decided to watch the movie with YOU, loyal listener! That's right, it's a syncable commentary track you can listen to while watching the movie in the comfort of your own home. Dan and Katie Eden will tell you when to hit play and, from there, will be your guides through all the awkward oedipal moments...all the voice-overs with creepy subtext...and of course all the sensual pie-making sequences. So cool down with a propped up box fan, bake yourself a rustic peach pie, and let's put a roof on this house. Because frankly...this needs to happen.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED 8/20/22 This month we talk about another one of Dan's undeniably great picks that Jer finds himself slightly nonplused by with this viewing.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED JULY 2022 It's the movie we've talked about way too often on the main show: "Camp Nowhere" from 1994, which had a much bigger impact on Jer and Dan's life than it rightfully should have.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED JUNE 2022 Dan's pick for this month is the 1975 Milos Foreman film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" starring Jack Nicholson. A movie that we're both...crazy about?

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED MAY 2022 Dan selects this month's OVER 90 title starring a yet-again masked Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron with a haircut that would have been a much more relevant reference point for Chris Rock to get slapped over. We're discussing "Mad Max: Fury Road" directed by George Miller.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED APRIL 2022 In this, the month of April Fools, we talk about our favorite pair of dimwitted dullards: Harry Dunne and Lloyd Christmas, Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey; together they are "Dumb and Dumber" and the starring characters of the 1994 film directed by the Farrelly Brothers.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED MARCH 2022 We're going all Irish for this month of March! Our listeners chose "The Departed" from our multi-platform polls, so Jer and Dan discuss this selection from Jer's list, directed by Martin Scorsese and featuring an ensemble cast including Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, and Alec Baldwin.

We finally return with new Over 90, this time discussing the 2000 Christopher Guest comedy "Best In Show," what many consider to be his best entry. Do you agree?

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED FEBRUARY 2022 In this, the month of love, we talk about one of Jer's all time favorite movies: "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" directed by Michel Gondry and starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet while comparing our similarities to the characters as we were in 2004 and as we are now in 2022.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED JANUARY 2022 We kick off the new year by looking back over 45 years. We're talking about Paul Thomas Anderson's second film, but the first to blast him into the mainstream like a dude sitting in the back row of an adult movie theater in...excuse me. Jer and Dan discuss "Boogie Nights" from 1997.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED DECEMBER 2021 It's December, so we're not going to make you wait to hear us talk about one of our all time favorite Christmas movies ever: "Home Alone" starring Macaulay Culkin as the titular Home Alone.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED NOVEMBER 2021 Let's discuss the movie that brought the very IDEA of the multiverse to the collective consciousness. We're talking about the genre-changing "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" from 2018 starring Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld and Mahershala Ali.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED OCTOBER 2021 Jer and Dan talk about the OG Addams movie that has been a staple of their lives since it was released in 1991. "The Addams Family" was directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and starred Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, Christopher Lloyd, and Christina Ricci.

Frank Oz brought that "Show must go on!" Muppety energy to Steve Martin's script about washed up filmmaker Bobby Bowfinger, who cons his way into making a movie with action superstar Kit Ramsey, played by Eddie Murphy. Our September OVER 90 episode comes a little late in the form of 1999's "Bowfinger" directed by Frank Oz and starring Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy, Heather Graham, Christine Baranski, Robert Downey Jr., Terrance Stamp, and a respectfully restrained Jamie Kennedy. The con is on!

It's the movie that inarguably changed the perception of comic book movies forever and many consider to be the best Batman movie of all time: 2008's "The Dark Knight" directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale and Heath Ledger with a performance that shut the haters up permanently.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED SEPTEMBER 2021 We get in the Halloween spirit a little early by talking about an OG anthology movie that is certainly more fun than most, albeit a little light in story. "Creepshow" from 1982 was directed by George A. Romero with a screenplay by Stephen King. Segments feature Hal Holbrook, Leslie Nielsen, Adrianne Barbeau, Ed Harris, Ted Danson, and even Stephen King himself.

Frankly, this needed to happen...

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED MAY 31, 2022 We close out this franchise and this show with the most lackluster, unceremonious ending we could offer: "The New Mutants."

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED MAY 17, 2022 If it feels like we've done this all before, it's because we have. So this week we talk about a lot of different things, and somewhere in the middle of it is a little "Dark Phoenix."

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED AUGUST 2021 Jer and Dan discuss the movie that Jer has officially seen more than any other movie in his lifetime. "Pee-wee's Big Adventure" from 1985 was directed by Tim Burton and written by Paul Reubens and Phil Hartman.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED APRIL 25, 2022 The last decent X movie...here it is..."Deadpool 2"

Still considered to be Jer's favorite Batman movie, "Batman Begins" from 2005 was the beginning of Christian Bale under the cowl, Christopher Nolan behind the camera, and the "dark and gritty" reboot.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED APRIL 6, 2022 We've reached the apex of X movies. No where to go from here but down, down, down.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED MARCH 22, 2022 "X-Men: Apocalypse" is not the truly apocalyptic event that a lot of people make it out to be. Because that would at least be exciting. Instead it's a snooze, which is the cardinal sin for movies, particularly franchise films.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED MARCH 8, 2022 We've all seen it, but we're talking about it anyway. And we're bringing a Patron with us!

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED FEBRUARY 22, 2022 Have we reached the climax of quality in the X-Men movies? "Logan" aside, this may be the best X-Men movie pound for pound, and we happily get into it. But we're reaching the peak of the roller coaster climb, and we're close to racing straight down!

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED JULY 2021 This movie has it alllll going on, so to speak. Depression, anxiety, self-loathing, Boomer energy...what more do you need? Jer and Dan discuss the 2004 dramedy "Sideways" directed by Alexander Payne and starring Paul Giamatti, Thomas Haden Church, Sandra Oh, and Virginia Madsen.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED FEBRUARY 8, 2022 The X-Men series continues with its least X-Men entry to date, but perhaps the best movie pound for pound, "The Wolverine."

Dan's pick for the month of June celebrates the Spike Lee joint "Do the Right Thing" starring himself and Danny Aiello along with a supporting cast of heavy hitters like Giancarlo Esposito, John Turturro, Samuel L. Jackson and Bill Nunn. REPOSTED WITH MODERATELY BETTER AUDIO

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED JANUARY 25, 2022 The X-Men franchise is about to have a nice little stretch of successful movies, starting with the soft reboot "X-Men: First Class" from 2011.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED JANUARY 11, 2022 Today we take a nosedive in quality to what was intended to be the first of several Origins movies. Didn't quite pan out that way. That's right, we're talking about X-Men Origins: Deadpool.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED DECEMBER 28, 2021 We finish out 2021 by finishing the original X-Men trilogy. What will 2022 hold for us? Well...a mixed bag of sequels, that's for damn sure.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED JUNE 2021 In case you needed proof that this is a list that could ONLY be put together by us, we present our second episode as we discuss a movie that 100% shaped not only Jer's sense of humor, but also the way that Jer and Dan played as kids. Gremlins 2: The New Batch is directed by Joe Dante and stars Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, John Glover, Gizmo and a whole new batch of GRAMLINS!

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED DECEMBER 14, 2021 Dan joins us to talk about the second chapter of the X-Men series, which takes a large leap forward in quality. Whether or not the same applies to this conversation is debatable.

ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED NOVEMBER 30, 2021 We kick off a brand new franchise for BOTH Jer and Mike this week. Strap yourselves in for a journey into the Fox X-Men universe, which...by the time we wrap this franchise up...may be a part of the MCU for all we know!

Jer's selection is a Michael Keaton movie for the month of May: "Multiplicity!" Harold Ramis directed this under-appreciated comedy from the mid 90's, which feels very much of its time but still holds up in multiple ways.
